Everybody here knows what a Jam Boy is, right?
British colonialists, while playing golf or croquet, would employ local Indian or African boys—sometimes referred to as servants or slaves—who were covered in jam or jelly. The purpose was for the boy to stand near the golfers, allowing the jam to attract insects, mosquitoes, and flies away from the players, keeping them comfortable. As compensation, the boy was allegedly allowed to keep the leftover jam.
