In all seriousness, if you've paid these fees for the past 5 years, you could've paid to have your own private well installed ($6 - $7k). It might not be too late.
Given the yearly budget crises and weird additives local water "authorities" here in New England provide, I'm grateful to have raised my kids on well water.
I moved here 5 years ago. Soon after moving, I looked into this. I even sent a grievance to that "utility" to claim it's not justified. Even if you have a well, which some people kept, they charge $300/year because "they might connect some day". It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen when it comes to taxation. I even did the math to show that they got a bond passed for far more than the actual cost. I sent this analysis to the State Attorney General, but they are too busy trying to get Trump arrested. NY is the most disgusting state ever!

I have friends that live in NY and they do not have any problems like that with their town. Maybe because they are very rural in the Southern Tier.
