back in the 1980s a friend of the family did security at the airport. According to her The only time anything was checked by security was when the FBI showed up on a tip. Drugs and guns could of been moving through her check point and she would be clueless because her job was only to check the ticket and the id. there was no training for the job and it was close to minimum wage and if she stopped anyone for security concerns she could loose her job if the person complained to the airline.
I had girlfriend in 1985 that was a "security" person at a major US airport. Minimum wage job for a minimally qualified person.
She did get to wear a nice purple colored blazer though.
"An armed society is a polite society," because baddies know there's a chance they could be blown away if they were to try some shenanigans.

Our current society of criminals (who don't obey gun-control laws and who WILL be armed if and when they so desire) and unarmed "sitting ducks" (who obey gun-control laws and are clearly identified as such via "gun-free zone" laws and notifications.)
