Iran’s response to President Trump’s promise to attack their power plants if they don’t open the strait is: We will attack the desalination plants in the region if the US attacks the power plants.

This is way more scary to the countries in the region. A thousand times scarier than attacks on their energy infrastructure. Desalination plants are the overwhelming source of the water for the gulf states. And I believe, the number one reason that these countries played both sides of the fence for decades.
