“A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.”
This idea, often summarized as “science advances one funeral at a time,” reflects the notion that entrenched scientific paradigms are not overturned by logical argument alone, but by the passing of older generations who resist change. The concept is now known as Planck’s Principle.
Unfortunately for the Patrick Principle, Rush Limbaugh spent just over three decades teaching Americans, and others around the world, that climate change, global cooling/warming is a hoax.
