The reason is simple. In Zechariah 9:9 it says “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
God set a command for that day. Rejoice greatly. If somehow the people did not rejoice the rest of creation would have started rejoicing. When God speaks it is truth. It will happen
