The Iranian military, the Artesh, are all but disappeared. The commanders fled and the rank and file left their posts after being abandoned. The hardliner IRGC and the Basij forces are the main actors in these military actions. I don't even think the Artesh have even been paid. There is also some doubt as to whether some of the Basij forces are being paid either. The regime has brought in foreign Shia militia forces from Afghanistan and Syria because of the loss of manpower on the streets. Convincing IRGC women and children to take up arms and go out there to control the Iranian people tells you everything.
