It would take a 2/3 approval by the Senate. That means every Republican and at least 17 (there's that number again) Democrats would have to vote to leave NATO.
I just don't see that happening anytime soon.
This isn't dooming. It's understanding how our laws work and being realistic.
I really get the impression most people think this is just something POTUS can decide alone.

So before people get their hopes up, and start telling all their liberal family members that we're pulling out of NATO, look into how it would actually have to happen first.
I mean he could physically remove all of our troops on the ground in all the euro countries, and stop selling equipment and intel. He doesn't need Congress for that. So we'll "on paper" be in NATO but not actually contribute anything and the world will know we will not be there to defend them.
