One thing to keep in mind is that Indonesia is the most populated Muslim country in the world. It has 240 Million Muslims, which is nearly 90% of the population. Almost 99% of them are Sunni Muslim.
The U.S. is currently working with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Oman, Pakistan, etc... which are all Sunni Muslim nations, on opening up the Persian Gulf and securing the Strait of Hormuz.
Now we will be working with Indonesia to maintain the Strait of Malacca.

We knew the strait is strategic. I expected it after hormuz since so much of the oil out of the M.E. transit malaca straits.
