On Truth in Media (1807): "...nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle."
On Education (Various): "The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers."
On Advertisements (1819): "I read no newspaper now but Ritchie's, and in that chiefly the advertisements, for they contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper."
On Newspaper Lies (1807): "A truth now and then projecting into the ocean of newspaper lies serves like headlands to correct our course”
