In no universe would Honest Don (nod to 'Honest Abe', another president nearly as great :) ever sink so low as to stage an assassination attempt on himself, endangering a huge crowd in the process, for any reason.

With that obvious fact stated, in retrospect the incident had an unintended threefold beneficial effect:

canceling the media whores' verbal assault they were about to launch against Trump from the podium;

unifying the room in a sense of shared danger, as they were literally "all in this together;"

and obliterating any remnant of doubt about the absolute need for the fortified ballroom.

Hopefully now that members of the Sacred Media have stepped into Trump's world and had their OWN lives imperiled (at least from potential crossfire or being trampled in the resulting chaos), they might stop telling their audience that Trump is a nazi, fascist, dictator, Hitler, king, authoritarian or tyrant.

(I really wish he'd answered that way in the press conference when asked what could be done to stop this political violence. "Maybe if you in the press would stop justifying it to violent leftists by referring to Trump as all these things. Thanks in advance for reversing course and asking the public to stop trying to kill the president, he is not a fascist or tyrannical dictator. Next question?" :)
