The UAE announces it will be leaving OPEC effective May 1st.
This will officially end the UAE's 59-year membership in the organization.
OPEC represents 35~40% of worldwide crude oil production.
OPEC, as a “cartel” sets production targets/quotas, which can tighten or loosen supply and thus, control oil prices.
The UAE is usually 3rd or 4th largest producer, after Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
The Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline (ADCOP) runs from inland fields to the port of Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman.
This allows UAE to export oil without passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a major chokepoint.
👉By leaving OPEC, the UAE is breaking a cartel that has manipulated oil prices for decades.

OPEC is essentially the CARTEL of the energy world, and President Trump has chipped away at one of the last big coordinated tools that a handful of nations used to steer global energy prices.
The UAE is OPEC’s third-largest producer. Without it, the club has way less muscle to enforce those “pump less” agreements.
This hits right in the middle of the Iran war chaos (INTENTIONAL & PLANNED), which has already shut down key shipping routes.
This sets a MAJOR precedent. Now one major player just walked out the door – the world is watching. Others will follow.

For decades, this cartel has been one of the few groups that could actually move global oil prices on purpose. It gave a handful of countries outsized power over energy costs everywhere. The UAE’s exit chips away at that. It pushes the world a little closer to real supply-and-demand markets instead of cartel-managed prices. Less coordinated control by any single bloc of nations. More room for big independent producers (including the U.S.) to influence what happens.

The United Arab Emirates has decided to leave the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as well as OPEC+, the state Emirates News Agency (WAM) reports.
The withdrawal, which is set to come into force on May 1, is viewed as a serious blow to Saudi Arabia, the informal leader of OPEC. The news comes amid a crisis in the Middle East triggered by the US-Israeli war against Iran, which resulted in the suspension of crude exports from the Persian Gulf and damage to Arab nations that host US military bases.
The statement expressed appreciation for cooperation within the organization and with members of OPEC+, which was formed in 2016 and includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Oman, Mexico, and other non-OPEC countries.
The UAE has consistently ranked behind fellow OPEC members Saudi Arabia and Iraq in terms of production quotas. Angola, Ecuador, Indonesia, and Qatar have withdrawn from OPEC in the past for various reasons, ranging from an unwillingness to pay membership fees to broader political tensions among Gulf nations in the case of Qatar’s 2019 decision to leave. Earlier on Tuesday, Brent crude price hit $110 for the first time in three weeks, as peace talks between US and Iran stalled, raising risks that the global supply of crude will remain throttled for the foreseeable future.
