They have, and they’ve tended to focus on the south, not the north, and when focusing on the south, they’ve ignored the problems that were being fought for that were separate from slavery, as well as any sort of nuance regarding slavery.

The south fought for it -> the south is white -> “white fights for racism” (ignore the ironic hypocrisy of that statement)
