The figure looks exactly like a classic "diffraction spike" effect seen in telescopes, as a result of the internal framework of the optical system. (Cameras are essentially telescopes.) What looks to be a smoke trail could also be an artifact of pixels that had been oversaturated by the center of the image; as the image moves in the field of view, the pixels eventually restore their normal state (fading).
