Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Sold my car last weekend. I couldn't afford gas for my commute so they fired me from my job. Today I pulled the ripcord and sold the car to get some cash for groceries. I live in the country with kids, but I'm afraid of having to move to a shelter in the city or something. I'm a young mom and don't have any experience with that.
Plus side would be more job opportunities in the city.
Thankful for any ideas.
Have you checked your local food pantry or church? I’m sure there’s some retired individual there that wouldn’t mind helping you out with transportation until you get back on your feet. I live rural-ish too so I get what you’re saying. I do know of some women’s shelters around here but they stay a little hush hush because they are used for victims sometimes. Check with the local health department or birthright center (if you have them). They have resource lists. Try to stay out of the city. Small country towns have offerings too. Blessings to you fren, take care of you and your babies. God will bless you in unexpected times. You just have to listen.
You live in the country and sold your car? How do you get to the grocery store? Why would you commute alone? I also live in the country and I had numerous options for ride sharing and even buses to get to the city. Is your ex-husband helping out? Food stamps and other government food programs are everywhere. How old are your children? Do you grow your own food?
You obviously have a computer and must pay for internet and with small, hungry children have time to spend here. I admire your ingenuity. I couldn't do it. Small kids is a 24/7 job.
Ya, I'm now dependent on family since I don't have a car. We make appointments to go shopping. My husband died in an worksite accident last year. We can't afford internet. My nephew makes a Hotspot when he cones to visit
Is this an opportunity to pursue gifts and passions that you can turn into income? Also, can you grow your own food living in the country and grow extra to sell locally?
We don't really have enough property or the starting money to think about something like that t
