Do not be mistaken. Xi is only saying things like that because China is in a really bad place. Foreign investment has tanked along with the limping Chinese economy. This behavior by the Chicoms is the typical playbook they use every time they reach out to the US when they need our help. Every administration before Trump bought the slop the CCP fed them and the US suffered because of it.

Xi especially is a hard core Maoist. That is not going to change. He is even too far left for members of the Party, hence there is fracturing and Party infighting. Xi desperately needed Trump to come to China to bolster his standing because he is on shaky ground. I think part of the reason Trump went to Beijing was to personally evaluate whether Xi is actually in control and what is his current physical condition. Trump has prior experience dealing with sleepy Joe types. Thankfully, Trump is not swayed by the CCP's words. So, we should not be swayed by Xi's words either. Xi is known to promise one thing and do another. Every time he has made a promise to Trump, China's actions tell otherwise.
