For me, it is less about feelings vs. ratiocination, than it is about self-delusion vs. honesty. When the delusions collide with reality and truthfulness, huge emotions erupt (cognitive dissonance). Cherished fantasies are refuted, and those who are the agents of that collision become targets of hatred ("How dare you!").
