Quibble I must, but technically, the USA is a Constitutional Republic operating under the separation of powers. Actually there is a big difference between Constitutional vs Democrat Republics (democrat often equates to mob rule).

I love to point out to people that call the USA a Democracy that the vast, overwhelming majority of FedGov (that would be the entire Executive branch) is not democratically elected.
Which means that if you consider FedGov to be a democracy, it is democratically proven NOT to be one.

The blue portion of this chart is misleading at best. The reason is because it didn't cover the period our founding fathers spent while serving England, during the revolution, or during the constitutional convention. George Washington's service to America dates back to the French and Indian war and includes his time as Commander in Chief of the armed forces as President as well as President of the Constitutional Convention.
In some cases, being a career politician is okay as long as you are honest.
