As it happens, TODAY I got a big envelope from the Southern Poverty Law Center begging for money (of course) under the guise of a Voting Rights Survey they wanted me to fill out.
(I don't believe I've ever rec'd anything from the SPLC before, and they must be desperate if they're trying to get money from me -- or any of my neighbors, for that matter).
The pitch started off with a sad story about "Crystal Mason, a Black mother of three" and continued on and on, as these money-grabs tend to do, eventually reminding me that --
The right to vote is foundation to our democracy.
The renewed attacks orchestrated by far-right extremists are more widespread and unrelenting today than any time since the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is facing federal prosecution on charges of wire fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, following a grand jury indictment filed on April 21, 2026, in Alabama. Prosecutors allege the SPLC secretly funneled over $3 million in donor funds between 2014 and 2023 to informants affiliated with extremist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations, and the National Alliance, while failing to disclose these payments to donors.
