Seems like nothing new. I know the Green Card process quite well and it's this; you have to apply for an immigrant visa at a US Embassy in your home country (London in my case). You can't just rock up as tourist and decide to stay. If the visa is granted, then you can live and work in the US while your Green Card application is in progress. In fact you are **required ** to show evidence of approved employment in the US and that you are self-supporting - how do you do that if you have left the country?
It's a complex and expensive process by the way and needs determination and grit - the immigration fairy does not wave a magic wand.
Being against illegal immigration is not the same as unlimited hating on foreigners. Remember foreigners is how your country got started.
That may be what it says you're supposed to do, but the reality is that it is not happening. I have dozens on my case load at welfare that were here illegally and are now "permanent residents," and they never left the country........unless you consider them going to New York.
