Those protections essentially are non-existent when Democrats are in power, so don't assume they are divinely ordained. And right now, we are in a pitched battle over whether WE will have "free and fair" elections, as it seems we haven't had for decades.
My family have been gun owners and hunters for generations. Never once have been threatened to lose the guns. And never once was afraid of being detained for speech. Haven't ever been in trouble with the law for speech. Nobody I know has been in trouble with the law for saying whatever they please. Never known anyone that had their guns taken by the government.
Now I'm not saying it hasn't happened to anyone else. I'm sure it has. But to pretend that the ammendments in the US Constitutional are in any way comparable to the rights people do not enjoy in a place like Russia, is a huge whiff.
Maybe you don't know gun owners or go hunting in multiple states since the 60's like we do. But trust me, it isn't like Russia no matter who has been presiding over our beautiful country.
That will last until it doesn't. It sounds like you are far from the big cities. The Dems are dedicated to creeping control. It has happened in nations you wouldn't have expected to (like Australia). I hope you are an active member of a 2nd Amendment protection organization like NRA or GOA. Too much of this goes down because gun owners don't think it is worth the trouble to oppose it. So, are you complacent (future victim), or taking steps to prevent the problem?
The state of Washington has, last year, banned the sale of pistols having more than 10 rounds capacity. Never did before. But we have Single-Party rule across all 3 branches of government. Their current trick is to implement an income tax.
The state of Washington also went totalitarian nuts when Covid-19 was the show in town, with mask decrees, "social distancing", and so many restrictions that small businesses were destroyed. That's not "like Russia"? Governor Jay Inslee was intoxicated with power lust, to implement one decree after another. As a result of bullshit medical decrees and requirements, many people died from medical misadventure or the effects of the vaccine. Maybe that's not like Russia...but it is worse. If you are on this board, you should know that our elections are a joke...being rigged and buggered in order to maintain power for the tyranny uniparty (Democrats and RINOs).
The "Great Awakening" can entail a lot of realizations, but the indispensable first realization is that the liberties and rights we take for granted are being obliterated by those who plan by the generation. There is the thought that we can resist by force of arms, but that can happen only if we are an organized militia. There is no such thing now. It is the isolated individual against organized state forces. Reality trumps idealistic dreams. Better to follow good leaders and win by the ballot box.
Oh I know things are bad in Washington, and that Covid in America was a shitshow. We agree on that. My whole thing adds up to, still better than russia. That's all. I've had an incredibly good run in these here united states. Been raised up by happy people that traveled the world. I've been lucky to travel some of it myself, along with a visit to most of the states and many of the biggest cities. Grand parents on mothers side, and then my parents went to Russia. All have the same report. Russia ain't shit compared to this country. I believe them.
That is probably true. But I look at Seattle today and compare it to what I knew of it 60 years ago, and today it is shit compared to then. I continue to hear similar cases from California, which I also remember from long ago. Likewise, Oregon. There are some dire things at work in this country and those in the heartland can be seriously harmed by bad things going down in the big cities. We are a body politic, and a cancer anywhere can bring death to the whole.
What am I going to do? I don't know. Stay alert. I have a firearm collection...but it is based on the principle that, whatever ammo I can get my hands on, I have something that can shoot it. I also think that modern times make the .45-70 Government something of a secret weapon! Stay frosty, fren.
