I’m considering the Branson area, in one of the small towns surrounding it (Forsyth, etc). There are plenty of chef gigs in Branson, and I want to continue to live rural. I am (God Blessedly) on my own now, so I’ll just be renting at first, and rentals are cheap in the outskirts.
I live in a town called Kimberling City. About five miles west of Branson. Lived here off and on for the past 40 years. Back then Hwy 76 was a traffic jam from 6am until 11pm. That has drastically changed, whether from the tourism dwindling or the new roads cut through the hills to bypass Hwy 76. Where to live? I'd stay away from Forsyth, too many crackheads on that side of the county. Heck, anywhere you go around here has its share of redneck beat up clunkers cars and trucks sitting in the front yard waiting to be repaired. Look south towards the Arkansas state line. Takes a little but more time to get into Branson, but the tax situation is way better. Blue Eye Arkansas come st mind. You might be able to wrangle an acre of land from an old farmer and set up a nice homestead.
Beautiful area. I'm about an hour-ish from that general area. Forsyth is a great little town. I think you'll be happy with your move. Best of luck to ya!
