It always seemed to me like at least one of their potential strategies was to let the Muslims have their way with Israel and use the public outrage to get all out war with the Islamic world started.

Getting as many Jews as possible crammed into a tiny area surrounded by enemies seems like a horrible idea that makes a lot more sense if someone had that outcome in mind. Yes I know there’s a debatable biblical argument, but that potential had always been there. It took a small number of powerful people doing some very questionable things to make it actually happen.
