I suspect they are cheating and drinking spirulina, which has been known for decades as essentially a pure food. Looks like powdered black-green coal dust, and mixes to a dense chartreuse color. But completely harmless and beneficial.
It might be a fun head trip to get ahead of them, call out spirulina as a good thing, point out that it is pure algae, make clips of drinking it, and call them out with thanks for drawing attention to it. Is this called co-opting? Then anyone drinking algae in protest will be retro-branded as a MAGA supporter. Mess with their head, before they're in bed!
They'd never do something like that... algae has too many beneficial things in it for them to possibly consider consuming any of it.
