I wonder where the 2.5 billion will come from?🤔
Thinking the same thing.
The article gives all the details, but I have to wonder why Ukraine thinks it will even be in the game by 2029. Maybe this is out of the same reality wherein the Bentley dealership in Kiev is the 3rd largest in the world (they say so).
Never heard of a Gripen doing anything. An AI image of a jet doesn't really help.
Do their missiles have a superior standoff capability than the SU57's? In other words: if the Gripen has to come closer in than the SU5, to land their payloads, then they will be shot out of the sky.
This contract was 'signed' by an unelected green goblin. Is it supposed to boost Sweden's economy? When will they be paid? With whose money?
As killerspacerobot has pointed out - I don't think the delivery will have any consequences on the outcome of the war.
To be fair, Saab makes good airplanes and the Gripen series is well-respected. Typically, armaments are purchased separately from the platform, depending on what the platform is capable of mounting (from whom and how much?). I have no idea who negotiated this deal. The article alludes to Ukrainian pilots already being trained on Gripens (where did THAT money come from?). There must be financial backers, but that is obscure at this point.
I am not expecting there would be a Ukraine to receive delivery, but do not profess to know the future.
They used to make mighty fine cars too, until they were sabotaged out of business.
Yes. GM bought them and then abused them and mutilated them, and finally sold them off for scrap, and the new owner couldn't make them back into a going concern.
I agree, those (trained) pilots are also going to be in rare quantities, as in: a high casualty rate.
In comparison 150 F35s would run 12.4 to 16 Billion. Those jets are ass if they only cost 2.4 billion.
