No Chinese leader is ever going to allow any Western system of thought take hold. The last thing they want is another country's ideology running any kind of system in their house, period. I watched via the dissident Chinese YouTube channels since it started going down so the information was always out there. It's been suggested that the Intelligence Chief that defected with a couple of terabyte hard drives was ordered to do so by Xi himself as gift of his good intentions. Xi was made orphan due to Mao he has no real love for CCP but he does like the job and if stepping on the Party is a way forward not surprised he's taking advantage of the confusion.
When Xi stops persecuting the Christian Church, I'll believe he's a a good guy. Until then, he's a dark gray hat as far as I'm concerned.
