Summary: AB 665 permits children to self-admit into residential facilities, which sets up their removal from their parents (already passed and signed into law). AB 1967 permits children to extricate themselves from their parents’ residential choices (pending legislation). Once the county takes control of the child following the detention hearing, the child must be placed in an AFDC-FC-eligible facility, and the rate for short-term residential therapeutic programs is $17,616 per month in state and federal money.
