and those five guys don't have a job anymore. they are out there competing for the jobs that remain. they're less likely to buy a house. they are less likely to invest. they aren't going to have as much money for consumer purchases. they might not be able to take their car to the mechanic and pay him to repair it. those five guys who are out of a job because of that automated concrete machine are five people who are being pushed onto the welfare system. and then the guy who owns the machine pockets all the money and sticks it in a bank account which he uses to buy more machines to automate everything and put everybody out of work until eventually there aren't any customers left who can afford to purchase his concrete services except the large institutions who own all the machines. where does everybody else go? The logical answer is to say that they all die and are replaced by machines which are owned by a very small group of people who essentially have no reason to exist anymore.
I guess I look at history. The slave owners were afraid to get rid of their slaves... who would do the work??? The cotton gin came along, then the Industrial Revolution, and although the slaves weren't needed anymore, the work was done. What happened to all the slaves? They found work and they have all found their place. Cars came along, it killed the horse and buggy industry, and the farriers, tack makers... on and on... new roads had to be built. They needed lights. They needed to build the cars. New industry was formed.
I could keep going... but I guess my point is, that even though it'll kill some industries, someone needs to fix the AI, someone needs to make parts, someone needs to fix the machinery. Jobs will be created.
