My HS history professor called Grant our worst President. Probably bc of the Teapot Dome and other scandals that occurred during his presidency.
PS I was a teenager during the late 60’s before Carter came into office who then became our worst President until Biden
Teapot Dome was under Harding in the 1920s, but there were multiple other scandals in Grant’s. He could lead men on the battlefield, but not lead a government on national issues.
He may have been such a heavy drinker because he accepted which of the two "parties" he chose to be in.
He was president in 1871 when they created The United States Corporation.
