I'm afraid "Christian" is a word thrown about so easily. We are called to be "Christ Followers". We are to have the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. We are called out to be separate from the world, doing that which pleases God.
until you are part of something serious it all speculation.
lets take it to the lowest level possible... What would Jesus do for the homeless? If you are indeed separate from the world, what are you doing when you pass by a homeless person?
now lets say that person you 'assume' is homeless is indeed not homeless. Yet you in your mind think are so noble for helping a 'homeless' person.
You forgot Humility. To have Humility is to see that the homeless person could be a deceiver and it is smoke to a larger problem going on that you are also part of.
many people who are homeless are really just working and receiving tax free money from the so called 'Christians' and that is not an assumption. :)
The Scripture that I quoted was kjv Galatians 5:22, 23 about the fruits of the Spirit. Meekness means humility and humbleness. Also to be separate from the world is found in 2 Corinthians 6:17 "Come out from among them and be ye separate sayeth the Lord and touch not the unclean thing". We know we live in this world and are touched by everything in it, but we are called of God to not participate in worldly behavior that would bring disgrace to the Lord. I have helped people on the street by giving food and water. That doesn't make me a part of their deception if they are asking for help without a true need. If I have helped with the right heart attitude and not expecting praise or anything in return, then that is what the Lord has asked of me. Yes I know Christian means Christlike. My point was that too many people are saying they are Christians and have no idea what being Christlike truly is. I really was in agreement with your post, just adding comment. it is all good. part of life is to have flexibility and discernment. With humans there is nobody that compares to Christ. Everyone is biased. Being able to criticize oneself is the most important.
Saul was of the right heart and attitude when he martyred Stephen as Stephen was being martyred he knew it too.
That is what the reality is. We can have the right heart and attitude in doing something that we deem Christlike, but is it?
To one is Sin that another it is not Sin to them. Just as if I am a Jew and I eat pork, am I a Jew to another Jew? The true liberal is the true Christian. We might understand that we are nothing more than a worm to God but we attempt to have a good outlook and when needed we can still rebuke and have a 1st and 2nd Amendment in the USA.
The gushy weak Christians might believe they are of the right attitude because they lick the boots of the rainbow fags but in reality they are essentially a stumbling stone to the up and coming Christians that Jesus wants us to be. :)
That last paragraph is so true. And that's where being separated from the world's philosophy comes in. I don't think they were waving the rainbow flag in Sodom and Gomorrah, but there was Lot not taking a stand against that filthy lifestyle. And when he tried to take his family and leave, to his sons in law he seemed as one that mocked. They didn't believe him, and he was a stumbling block to his children. Sin will take you farther than you want to go, and cost you more than you want to pay.
