Why are people expecting the Secret Service or the Mar A Lago staff to resist a legal search?

Why is everyone pretending this was going to be some big showdown like the OK Corral? Or that the FBI was going to come in hot and heavy. Remember, the public did even learn of the search until it was over.

A local FL publisher got the scoop Scoop — The Federal Bureau of Investigation @FBI today executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago, two sources confirm to @Fla_Pol.

"They just left," one source said.

By this point the Secret Service was well aware that a subpoena was served for documents at Mar A Lago. And that the FBI/DOJ had been there before in June discussing returning these documents.

One the day of the search, the Secret Service was notified a few hours ahead of time.

This is the standard DOJ policy on deadly force. It's literally straight out of the manual. https://search.app.goo.gl/oSe8WV8

Law enforcement officers and correctional officers of the Department of Justice may use deadly force only when necessary, that is, when the officer has a reasonable belief that the subject of such force poses an imminent danger of death or serious physical injury to the officer or to another person.

Deadly force may not be used solely to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect. Firearms may not be discharged solely to disable moving vehicles. Specifically, firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless: (1) a person in the vehicle is threatening the officer or another person with deadly force by means other than the vehicle; or (2) the vehicle is operated in a manner that threatens to cause death or serious physical injury to the officer or others, and no other objectively reasonable means of defense appear to exist, which includes moving out of the path of the vehicle. Firearms may not be discharged from a moving vehicle except in exigent circumstances. In these situations, an officer must have an articulable reason for this use of deadly force.

If feasible and if to do so would not increase the danger to the officer or others, a verbal warning to submit to the authority of the officer shall be given prior to the use of deadly force. Warning shots are not permitted outside of the prison context.

Officers will be trained in alternative methods and tactics for handling resisting subjects, which must be used when the use of deadly force is not authorized by this policy.

Deadly force should not be used against persons whose actions are a threat solely to themselves or property unless an individual poses an imminent danger of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others in close proximity.

It absolutely does not mean that.

Read the document she posted.

They talk about existing liaison relationship with the USSS POC.

That United States secret service point of contact.

It means they are going to escalate the situation to the standard person they talk to to deal with situations like this where different agencies are engaging with each other.

. 34 counts, 4 years

My guess is sentencing would be max 4 years.

Essentially treat it all as part of the same thing.

Merchan: Are you staring me down right now?

Costello: I'm not.

Merchan: GET OUT OF THE COURTROOM, NOW! GET OUT OF THE COURTROOM!

I bet you a nickle, It didn't happen this way.

Because Costello was the one person the Judge wanted in the courtroom.

Omg where did you find this?

It's hilarious

CrimeGrade.org uses a complex process of statistical computation and machine learning to find the safest and most dangerous areas.

It's like a false positive generator.

OMG. I'm howling.

So the highest crime near me is

a cemetery. A super expensive prep school. A golf course The wildlife refuge.

Dude, this site literally has golf course as a more violent area than the Jail.

It has Governor's Island as higher crime than Rikers Island.

My guess is it was a warning he was headed for contempt.

Like you know they make the jury leave when they are going to argue about things because it might prejudicial?

I think this was a level beyond that.

Like even in front of the reporters or other courthouse observers it would be an issue.

One reporter said Costello was red in the face when they came back

To be clear he was not telling Costello to get out of the courtroom. He was telling the reporters and other observers to leave.

First he asked the jury to leave and it escalated and he cleared the courtroom.

The press in the overflow room got to see some of this and then they shut off that video feed.

Costello auditioning for AG?

I wonder how that plays to a jury. Reporters said his face was beet red when they returned to the courtroom.

Trump's lawyers made their case for a directed verdict......saying the prosecution didn't make their case.

Judge says he will decide later.

Costello will still be on the stand tomorrow

Justice Merchan: We'll break here for the day. [Jury leaves] Prosecutor Hoffinger: I have 30 or 45 minutes left Defense: Re-direct will be short. Justice Merchan: So you'll rest early tomorrow. Trump's lawyer Blanche: We request an order of dismissal

Trump's lawyer Blanche: There is no evidence the records were false. Mr. Cohen did legal work in 2017, he admitted it. There is no false business filing. And no evidence of any intent to defraud. [Trump is turned to watch Blanche as he argues]

Holy Smokes

After Costello said "jeez" into the mic, Merchan, fires at him, "What did you just say?"

"Strike it," Costello responds.

That's some chutzpah! Sir, you are not the judge.

It's tense in the courtroom.

Justice Merchan: You don't give me side eye or roll your eyes.... Clear the courtroom!

Prosecutor: Objection. Judge: Sustained.

Costello: "Geez!"

This caused the judge to send the jury out and to talk to Costello.
