Holy Father, it sounds like Europe is becoming some kind of gulag. Plenty of idiotic (at best) and liberticide regulations are coming, most of which were neither demanded nor voted by the People. Even the head of this monster is not chosen but just placed there by a concealed mob. I pray the people takes this Babel Tower down and find its way through a genuinely fair harmony.

In the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, July 13 commemorates Saint Henry II (973–1024), Holy Roman Emperor and King of Germany, who was canonized by Pope Eugene III in 1146 for his devout life, promotion of ecclesiastical reforms, and defense of the Church against secular encroachments. Henry, married to Saint Cunigunde, abdicated the throne in 1024 to pursue monastic life, embodying the ideal of Christian kingship rooted in Carolingian traditions of imperial piety as described in contemporary annals like those of Thietmar of Merseburg. His hagiography emphasizes miracles attributed post-mortem, including healings at his tomb in Bamberg Cathedral, verified through episcopal inquiries during the canonization process, which followed 12th-century papal standards requiring eyewitness testimonies and papal approval.
The day also marks the feast of other figures in Catholic tradition, such as Saint Clelia Barbieri (1856–1870), founder of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family and Italy's youngest canonized foundress at age 23, whose canonization by Pope Pius XII in 1951 drew on documented visions and charitable works amid 19th-century cholera epidemics. Blessed Carlos Manuel Rodríguez Santiago (1918–1963), a Puerto Rican lay catechist beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1997, is likewise observed, with his cause advanced by the Archdiocese of San Juan based on writings promoting liturgical renewal and evidence of mystical experiences influencing his evangelization efforts.

In Eastern Orthodox churches adhering to the Julian calendar, July 12 in the Gregorian calendar marks the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, commemorating the martyrdoms of these chief apostles under Emperor Nero in Rome around 64–67 AD: Peter by crucifixion upside down, refusing to die in the manner of Christ, and Paul by beheading as a Roman citizen. This dual feast, fixed on June 29 Julian (corresponding to July 12 Gregorian from 1900–2099), celebrates Peter's role as the rock of the Church with keys to the Kingdom (Matthew 16:18–19) and Paul's mission to the Gentiles (Acts 9:15), emphasizing their foundational contributions to Christian doctrine, ecclesiology, and missionary expansion despite theological differences in primacy interpretations between traditions.
The Roman Catholic Church observes July 12 as the feast of Saint Jason of Thessalonica, a first-century convert who hosted Paul and Silas during their Thessalonian ministry (Acts 17:5–9), facing mob violence from jealous Jews who dragged him before city authorities for harboring preachers of a "new king" Jesus. Venerated as one of the Seventy Disciples and tradition's first bishop of Tarsus, Jason's life exemplifies early Christian endurance against synagogue-led persecutions and Roman legal scrutiny, contributing to the spread of Pauline theology in Macedonia amid hostility that forced apostolic flight.
July 12 also features as Orangemen's Day among Protestants, particularly Ulster loyalists, originating from the 1690 Battle of the Boyne where William III's Protestant army routed James II's Catholic forces near Drogheda, Ireland, on July 1 Julian (July 11 Gregorian). This decisive engagement preserved the 1689 Bill of Rights' Protestant constitutional framework, thwarting James's absolutist bid—backed by Louis XIV's France—to restore Catholic monarchy and reverse anti-Catholic land confiscations, thereby entrenching Protestant ascendancy and religious settlement in Britain and Ireland against papal influence.

In the Roman Catholic Church, July 11 is the memorial of Saint Benedict of Nursia, the sixth-century abbot recognized as the patron saint of Europe and founder of Western monasticism. Benedict, born around 480 in Nursia (modern Norcia, Italy), established the monastery at Monte Cassino circa 529 and authored the Rule of Saint Benedict between 516 and 540, a guide for communal monastic life emphasizing stability, obedience, and a balanced rhythm of liturgical prayer (opus Dei), manual labor, and sacred reading (lectio divina). This rule's provisions for scriptoria—dedicated spaces for copying manuscripts—enabled Benedictine communities to systematically preserve classical Latin texts, patristic writings, and biblical commentaries amid the socio-political disruptions following the Western Roman Empire's collapse, with empirical evidence from surviving Carolingian-era codices attributing transmission of authors like Virgil and Boethius to these practices. Observances of Benedict's feast include Masses with readings from his rule, particularly chapters on humility and community, and blessings using the Saint Benedict Medal, which bears symbols from his life such as the raven that diverted poison and the broken cup signifying thwarted attempts on his life. Theologically, the feast underscores the rule's causal foundation in scriptural mandates like Psalm 132:1 ("Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity") and the Pauline call to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17), fostering self-sustaining communities that historically supported agricultural innovation and literacy rates higher than surrounding secular populations during the early Middle Ages. Benedictine observance persists in over 20 congregations worldwide, with approximately 7,000 monks and nuns adhering to the rule as of recent counts, maintaining traditions like the full Divine Office recited seven times daily.

In the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, July 10 commemorates Saints Rufina and Secunda, virgin-martyrs executed in Rome circa 257 during the Valerian persecution. Daughters of the senator Asterius, the sisters rejected betrothal to Armentarius and Verinus after the fiancés apostatized to avoid imperial edicts against Christianity; subjected to torture including clubbing and exposure to beasts, they persisted in faith until beheaded following the conversion of their executioners. Their hagiography, drawn from apocryphal Acts, underscores early Christian resolve amid coercive Roman policies favoring pagan conformity, with relics preserved at Santa Balbina basilica since the fifth century.
The same date honors Saints Anatolia and Victoria, Roman noblewomen martyred around 250 for refusing arranged pagan marriages and converting overseers to Christianity. Anatolia, betrothed to a consular official, distributed wealth to the poor before enduring flames and a serpent's bite; Victoria faced similar trials including dismemberment attempts, both ultimately beheaded alongside the converted Audax, illustrating chains of evangelization amid familial and state pressures. These commemorations reflect third-century causal dynamics where elite women's fidelity provoked targeted violence, yet inspired defections from persecutory apparatus. In traditional pre-1962 Roman calendars, July 10 also marks the Seven Holy Brothers, sons of Felicitas, noble Roman matrons whose martyrdoms—torture and execution under Antoninus Pius circa 150—exemplify familial solidarity against emperor-mandated sacrifices to idols, though primary accounts blend legend with historical persecutions. Eastern Orthodox calendars for July 10 (Gregorian) feature lesser-known ascetics and martyrs like the deposition of Saint Basil of Caesarea's relics in some synaxaria, but lack a unified major feast equivalent to Western observances. No prominent observances appear in Jewish, Islamic, or Protestant traditions for this date, emphasizing Catholic emphasis on hagiographic precedents for doctrinal adherence under duress.

In Christianity, July 9 features several feast days in the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox calendars, primarily honoring martyrs and mystics whose lives blend hagiographical narratives with sparse historical attestation. The Catholic Church commemorates Saint Augustine Zhao Rong and 119 companions, a group of Chinese martyrs executed between 1648 and 1930 during anti-Christian pogroms, including the Boxer Rebellion, where empirical records document state-sponsored violence against converts under Qing dynasty edicts viewing Christianity as foreign subversion. Among them, Augustine, a former soldier ordained priest in 1815, was beheaded in 1815 for evangelizing; their canonization in 2000 by Pope John Paul II underscores doctrinal emphasis on martyrdom's redemptive value, though critics note the selective historical verification of individual biographies amid broader persecution patterns. Saint Veronica Giuliani (1652–1727), an Italian Capuchin nun canonized in 1839, is also feted for reported mystical experiences including stigmata and visions, documented in her 22,000-page diary under ecclesiastical scrutiny, yet lacking independent empirical corroboration beyond subjective testimony and church-approved relics. Eastern Orthodox traditions observe Hieromartyr Pancratius, bishop of Taormina (1st century), traditionally a disciple of the Apostle Peter beheaded under Nero, and Venerable Ananias the Iconographer (8th century), though these rely on apocryphal acts with minimal archaeological or non-ecclesiastical support, highlighting tensions between faith-based lore and historical skepticism.

Kilian's relics are venerated in Würzburg Cathedral, where he is honored as the city's patron saint, with historical accounts attributing his death to execution by the duke's order despite royal protection. The day also commemorates Saints Aquila and Priscilla, a first-century Jewish-Christian couple from Rome who hosted the Apostle Paul in Corinth and Ephesus, contributing to early church communities as tentmakers and missionaries mentioned in several New Testament epistles. Their feast is observed in the Roman Catholic and some Anglican calendars, emphasizing their role in instructing Apollos and risking their lives for Paul.
In the Eastern Orthodox Church, July 8 (New Calendar) honors the Icon of the Mother of God of Sitka, a revered image brought to Alaska in 1794 and associated with miracles, including protection during fires; it is venerated particularly in the Orthodox Diocese of Sitka and Alaska. It also honors Saint Illidius, the fourth-century bishop of Clermont-Ferrand in Gaul who succeeded Saint Venerandus around 374 and contributed to the consolidation of Christian communities in Auvergne until his death in 385, credited in hagiographies with fostering ecclesiastical stability during Roman decline.

In Christianity, July 6 is the feast day of Saint Maria Goretti (1890–1902), an Italian virgin and martyr canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950 for resisting sexual assault at age 11, which led to her death from stab wounds; she forgave her attacker, Alessandro Serenelli, on her deathbed, and he later expressed remorse and became a lay brother. Her canonization emphasized virtues of purity, courage, and Christian forgiveness, with Pius XII highlighting her as a model against moral laxity in modern society.
The Roman Catholic calendar also commemorates other figures on this date, including Blessed Nazaria Ignacia March y Mesa (1889–1940), founder of the Pontifical Crusade of the Tabernacles of Perpetual Adoration, and Saint Romulus of Fiesole, a 1st-century martyr traditionally linked to evangelization in Tuscany.

In the Roman Catholic Church, July 5 marks the optional memorial of Saint Anthony Mary Zaccaria, a 16th-century Italian priest and physician who founded the Barnabites order. Born in 1502 in Cremona to a noble family, Zaccaria trained as a medical doctor before ordination in 1528, after which he established the Society of Clerics Regular of Saint Paul (Barnabites) in 1530 and the Angelic Sisters of Saint Paul, focusing on clerical reform amid the Catholic Reformation. His initiatives promoted frequent reception of the Eucharist, public processions with the Blessed Sacrament, and spiritual renewal through preaching, drawing from patristic sources to counter Protestant critiques without schism. Zaccaria died in 1539 at age 36; his relics were found incorrupt, leading to beatification in 1848 and canonization by Pope Leo XIII in 1897, with his feast assigned to his death date in the revised calendar.
In the Eastern Orthodox tradition, particularly among churches following the Revised Julian Calendar, July 5 observes the uncovering of the relics of Saint Sergius of Radonezh, a 14th-century Russian abbot and monastic reformer. Sergius (c. 1314–1392), born Bartholomew of Radonezh, withdrew to the forest near Moscow to found the Trinity Lavra, which became a spiritual center influencing Russian Orthodoxy's hesychastic revival and resistance to Mongol overlords through ascetic discipline and prayer. His relics, exhumed in 1422 under Metropolitan Photius, were found incorrupt and emitting fragrance, confirming veneration as a wonderworker; the event's commemoration underscores Orthodox emphasis on tangible signs of sanctity amid feudal consolidation.[36] The same date honors Saint Athanasius the Athonite (c. 920–1000), founder of the Great Lavra monastery on Mount Athos, who adapted cenobitic rule from Saint Athanasius of Alexandria to Byzantine monasticism, securing imperial charter in 963 for autonomous Athonite polity. These feasts highlight Eastern liturgical focus on monastic patrimony and relic cults as witnesses to divine economy.

Born Infanta Isabel of Aragon, she founded convents, hospitals, and alleviated famine relief efforts, earning canonization in 1625 for her piety and miracles attributed post-mortem, including rain during droughts invoked through her intercession. In the United States, where July 4 coincides with Independence Day—a national holiday—the liturgical observance of her memorial may be superseded, but it remains listed in the General Roman Calendar.
The date also commemorates Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925), an Italian layman beatified in 1990, whose optional feast is observed in certain dioceses and among youth movements for his commitment to social justice, mountaineering, and secret charitable acts aiding Turin’s impoverished despite his affluent background. Frassati joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic and various Catholic action groups, dying at age 24 from polio, with thousands attending his funeral revealing his hidden philanthropy. His cause highlights lay holiness in modern times, though not universally obligatory in the Roman Rite.
In the Eastern Orthodox Church, following the Revised Julian or Gregorian calendar, July 4 commemorates several saints, including Andrew of Crete (c. 650–712), Archbishop of Crete and hymnographer renowned for authoring the Great Canon of Repentance recited during Lent, emphasizing themes of sin, forgiveness, and divine mercy. Other figures include the Holy Martyrs Trophimus and Theophilus of Scythia, soldiers executed under Emperor Licinius for their faith around 310 AD, and the repose of saints like Methodius, a Bulgarian archbishop. Churches adhering strictly to the Julian calendar observe these on June 21 instead, shifting major events like the Synaxis of the Holy Royal Martyrs (the Romanov family, executed July 4/17, 1918) to Gregorian July 17. These observances typically involve Divine Liturgy, readings from the Prologue of Ohrid, and veneration focused on asceticism and martyrdom.

Holy Father, all I learn from the news during the few last weeks is something I had been suspecting for decades: the dark enemy is so good at concealing horrors that we don’t know what actually has become its norm and how bad its minions have been misbehaving. Meanwhile, most of the media mentions the heat wave or the coming tax raises « for climate purposes ». What about the recent 110% increase in burning French churches? No, it doesn’t exist. Except maybe Notre Dame, but it just was an electrical issue which has been fixed and the undamaged glasses were replaced by new, horrendous and expensive, ones. I pray people wake up and embrace back reality, harmony and prosperity.

In the Western Christian tradition, July 3 marks the feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle, commemorating his role as one of the original Twelve Apostles and his evangelization efforts in regions including Parthia and India, where tradition records his martyrdom by spearing around 72 AD. Known biblically as "Doubting Thomas" from John 20:24-29, he exemplifies a demand for tangible evidence—insisting on touching Christ's wounds—before affirming the Resurrection, resolving skepticism through direct verification rather than unexamined acceptance. This date aligns with the historical translation of his relics to Edessa, as noted in early church accounts, and is observed with Masses emphasizing faith grounded in sensory confirmation.
Eastern Orthodox calendars on July 3 honor multiple martyrs and hierarchs, including Holy Martyr Hyacinth of Caesarea in Cappadocia, a chamberlain executed under Emperor Trajan for refusing to renounce Christ, underscoring steadfastness amid imperial coercion. Also commemorated are Martyrs Diomedes, Eulampius, Asclepiodotus, and Golinduch, who endured tortures in the same era, alongside Saint Anatolios, Patriarch of Constantinople (died 458), whose tenure involved defending orthodoxy against heresies like Monophysitism through conciliar theology. These feasts, rooted in Byzantine synaxaria, promote ascetic disciplines as bulwarks against doctrinal dilution and worldly enticements, with liturgical services featuring troparia that recount their trials and intercessory roles.
Such observances derive from pre-schism martyrologies, with empirical traces in relic veneration sites like Mylapore, India, where Thomas's tomb aligns with 1st-century trade routes facilitating apostolic travel, though modern historiography debates the Acts of Thomas's details against sparse archaeological corroboration.

In the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, July 2 is the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorating the biblical event in which Mary visits her relative Elizabeth shortly after the Annunciation, as recounted in Luke 1:39–56; the feast was formally established in the 14th century and fixed on this date to follow the octave of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. The observance emphasizes themes of charity and humility, with liturgical readings including the Magnificat. In the Anglican Communion, it is similarly observed as the Feast of the Visitation, often with processions or services highlighting Mary's role in salvation history.
The date also serves as an optional memorial for several saints in the Catholic calendar, including Bernardino Realino (1530–1616), an Italian Jesuit priest who served as a civic official before ordination and focused on education and care for the poor in southern Italy until his death. Another is Otto of Bamberg (c. 1062–1139), a German bishop and missionary who converted pagan tribes in Pomerania through preaching and church-building, earning recognition as an apostle to the region despite resistance from local rulers.
In the traditional calendar of the Church of England, July 2 honors Swithun (d. 862), Bishop of Winchester, whose relics were translated to the cathedral on this day in 971, leading to a persistent English proverb linking rainy weather on St. Swithun's Day to 40 subsequent days of rain, rooted in medieval weather lore rather than theological doctrine.[36] The Coptic Orthodox Church commemorates martyrs Aberoh and Atom, early Christian soldiers executed under Roman persecution for refusing to renounce their faith.
In Judaism, the Fast of the Seventeenth of Tammuz—a minor fast day marking calamities such as the breach of Jerusalem's walls in 586 BCE and 70 CE—may coincide with July 2 in certain years, as the Hebrew calendar is lunisolar; for instance, it falls on this Gregorian date in 2026, involving dawn-to-dusk abstention from food and drink in remembrance of historical tragedies preceding the Temples' destructions. Jain traditions observe the beginning of Ashadha Ashtahnika Parva on or around July 2 in some years, an eight-day period of austerity and temple rituals honoring the faith's principles, though the exact timing varies by lunar calculation.

In the Eastern Orthodox Church, July 1 commemorates the Holy Martyrs and Unmercenary Physicians Cosmas and Damian of Rome, twin brothers born in Arabia who practiced medicine without accepting payment, adhering to Christ's command to heal freely as they did. The brothers, orphaned young and raised by their devout widowed mother Theodota, converted many through miraculous healings, including restoring a woman's withered hand, before their martyrdom by beheading under Emperor Diocletian around 303 AD for refusing to offer sacrifice to idols. Their names derive from Greek roots—Cosmas from kosmos meaning "order" or "world," and Damian from damazō meaning "to subdue" or "tame"—reflecting their disciplined faith and subjugation of earthly ties for divine service; they are invoked as patrons of physicians and against heresy.
In the Roman Catholic Church, the date held the Feast of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ until its suppression in the 1969 liturgical reforms, honoring the blood Christ shed during his Passion as the instrument of human redemption, a devotion promoted by figures like St. Gaspar del Bufalo who founded the Precious Blood Congregation in 1815. Post-reform, July 1 features an optional memorial in the United States for St. Junípero Serra (1713–1784), the Franciscan priest who founded nine California missions, baptized over 5,000 indigenous people, and endured personal hardships including a leg injury that left him lame, canonized by Pope Francis in 2015 amid debates over his role in colonial evangelization.

In the Roman Catholic Church, June 30 observes the optional memorial of the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome, commemorating the Christians executed under Emperor Nero in the aftermath of the Great Fire of Rome on July 19, AD 64. Historical accounts, including those by Roman historian Tacitus, describe how Nero scapegoated Christians for the blaze, leading to systematic tortures such as being sewn into animal skins and mauled by dogs, crucified, or burned alive as human torches in Nero's gardens; these events marked one of the earliest large-scale persecutions of Christians, resulting in numerous unnamed victims alongside figures like Saints Peter and Paul. The feast, instituted in the 1969 revision of the General Roman Calendar, emphasizes their collective martyrdom as a foundational witness to Christian fidelity amid imperial hostility, distinct from the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29.
Several individual saints are also venerated on this date in Catholic tradition, including Saint Paul of the Cross (1694–1775), founder of the Passionists, whose order focuses on contemplation of Christ's Passion; he experienced visions and promoted rigorous asceticism, with his canonization in 1867 affirming his role in 18th-century Italian spirituality. Other commemorations include Saint Basilides, a Roman soldier martyred around AD 303 for refusing to renounce Christianity during Diocletian's persecutions, and Saint Bertrand of Le Mans (died circa AD 725), a bishop known for charitable works and miracles attributed in hagiographies. These observances draw from martyrologies compiled from early church records, though details of many minor saints rely on tradition rather than exhaustive contemporary evidence.
In Eastern Orthodox Christianity, June 30 (on the Julian calendar, corresponding variably in the Gregorian) honors saints such as Apostle Paul in some commemorative liturgies extending from the June 29 feast of Peter and Paul, emphasizing Paul's conversion and missionary labors as detailed in Acts and his epistles; Orthodox synaxaria also list martyrs like Synclus and Apollo of Egypt.

Religious Observances
In the Catholic Church, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul is observed on June 29, commemorating the martyrdom of the apostles Peter and Paul in Rome under Emperor Nero around 64–67 AD. Tradition, drawing from early church historians like Eusebius, records Peter as crucified upside down at his request due to perceived unworthiness, while Paul, a Roman citizen, was beheaded; both accounts emphasize their apostolic witness amid Roman persecution, with archaeological support for Peter's burial site beneath St. Peter's Basilica. The joint feast, established by the 4th century as evidenced in Roman martyrologies, reflects their complementary roles—Peter as the foundational "rock" (per Matthew 16:18) symbolizing authority and Paul as the missionary to Gentiles—though Peter's primacy fuels ongoing doctrinal disputes, with Catholic tradition viewing it as instituting papal succession, contested by Eastern Orthodox and Protestant interpretations favoring collegial apostleship.
The Eastern Orthodox Church also marks June 29 as the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, aligning with the Julian calendar equivalent and focusing on their shared martyrdom date per hagiographical consensus, often with vigils and liturgies highlighting Pauline epistles on faith and Petrine leadership in the early church. Some Anglican communions observe it similarly, though without obligatory status, emphasizing ecumenical ties to apostolic foundations amid Reformation-era rejections of Roman primacy claims.
Additionally, June 29 is the feast day of Saint Cassius, Bishop of Narni (d. 558), noted in Catholic calendars for his episcopal tenure from 537, charitable works, and reputed miracles, including rain invocations during droughts; he died in Rome during pilgrimage for the apostles' feast, with veneration localized in Umbria but universally listed, underscoring early medieval episcopal piety rooted in anti-Arian efforts post-Gothic wars. These observances prioritize hagiographical and martyrological traditions over later syncretic adaptations, with empirical anchors in catacomb inscriptions and patristic texts confirming the apostles' Roman executions as causal pivots in Christianity's westward spread.

In the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, June 28 is the memorial of Saint Irenaeus, bishop of Lyons and martyr, recognized for his foundational contributions to Christian theology in combating Gnostic heresies during the late second century. Irenaeus, born around 130–140 AD in Smyrna and educated under Polycarp (a disciple of the Apostle John), succeeded as bishop amid the persecution of 177 AD and authored Adversus Haereses, a five-volume treatise that systematically dismantled Valentinian Gnostic doctrines by affirming the unity of God, the reality of creation, and the apostolic tradition preserved through episcopal succession and Scripture. This work emphasized the Incarnation's centrality, arguing against Gnostic dualism that posited a flawed material world emanated from inferior deities, instead upholding the biblical narrative of a benevolent Creator God whose economy of salvation culminated in Christ's recapitulation of humanity. Tradition holds Irenaeus suffered martyrdom around 202 AD under Roman authorities, though primary accounts like Eusebius's Ecclesiastical History confirm his episcopal role and anti-heretical efforts without specifying execution details, lending verifiability to his doctrinal legacy over hagiographic embellishments. In 2022, Pope Francis declared him a Doctor of the Church, titled "Doctor of Unity," for bridging Eastern and Western traditions against divisive errors.
The same date commemorates Saints Basilides and Potamiana (also Potamiaina), early Christian martyrs in Alexandria circa 205–211 AD during Emperor Septimius Severus's persecution targeting un-Romanized populations. Potamiana, a Christian slave girl, rejected her master's advances, leading to her denunciation; she endured torture including scalding with boiling pitch administered drop by drop, dying steadfastly while invoking Christ, as recounted by Eusebius from contemporary witnesses including Origen's disciples. Her mother Marcella shared a similar fiery martyrdom, their fidelity exemplifying resistance to sexual coercion and imperial cult pressures in a context of documented Severan edicts restricting conversions, evidenced by papyri and Dio Cassius's histories. Basilides, a pagan soldier escorting Potamiana to execution, shielded her from mob assaults and, moved by her witness, received baptism post-martyrdom before confessing Christ and facing beheading; Eusebius notes his rapid conversion and execution alongside other catechumens, underscoring the causal link between observed Christian endurance and pagan defections amid empirical persecution records from Alexandria's prefecture. These accounts, preserved in the Martyrologium Hieronymianum and Eusebius, prioritize verifiable martyrdom motifs—public confession and judicial penalty—over legendary accretions, highlighting early Church growth through exemplary deaths rather than doctrinal innovation.

Apart from a specific scene where our hero is just a consumer in an adult-entertainment facility, the narration is strong and I still don’t think this movie desserves to be censored. In the Roman Catholic Church, June 27 is designated as the optional memorial of Saint Cyril of Alexandria, a fifth-century bishop and Doctor of the Church. Cyril, who succeeded his uncle Theophilus as Patriarch of Alexandria in 412, is recognized for his theological defense of Christ's divinity and the hypostatic union of divine and human natures in the one person of Jesus. His leadership at the Council of Ephesus in 431 condemned Nestorianism, affirming Mary's title as Theotokos (God-bearer) and shaping core Marian and Christological doctrines. Born circa 376 in Alexandria, Egypt, Cyril died in that city on June 27, 444, after exiling dissidents and authoring extensive scriptural commentaries and anti-heretical treatises.
Additional saints commemorated on this date in Catholic tradition include Saint Arialdus, a 11th-century hermit and martyr who opposed simony in Milan, and Saint Crescens, an early disciple mentioned in the New Testament as a companion of Paul. Devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, an icon venerated for intercessory aid, is also observed by some communities, particularly Redemptorists, tracing to a 19th-century rediscovery and papal approval of the image depicting Mary shielding the child Jesus from archangels bearing instruments of the Passion.

In Eastern Orthodox tradition, June 26 commemorates figures such as Saint David of Thessaloniki (d. ca. 540), a monastic ascetic known for healing miracles, whose vita highlights Byzantine-era resistance to Arianism through personal austerity.

Holy Father, I am having an interesting week, mostly dodging snags at work. There’s a high turnover in that job because of the stress. I learnt two principles which I live by: the first is to always automate what can be. Even if it’s just setting an alias command to abbreviate a complex one, it’s already a step forward. The second principle made me at ease in that situation: never take anything personallly. Nobody has quite enough time for himself, so even an ad hominem rant would be a loss of time. I praise You for inspiring me this line of conduct and keeping me serene and focussed.

In the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, June 25 is observed as the optional memorial of Saint William of Vercelli (c. 1085–1142), an Italian nobleman who became a hermit, founded the Congregation of Montevergine (also known as the Benedictine Congregation of Monte Vergine), and served as abbot, emphasizing asceticism and monastic reform. William's life involved establishing monasteries in southern Italy, including the Monte Vergine abbey, where he promoted a rule of severe penance inspired by Saint Benedict, attracting numerous followers before his death from illness.
The day also commemorates Saint Prosper of Aquitaine (c. 390–455), a theologian and disciple of Saint Augustine who defended orthodox Christian doctrine against Pelagianism, authoring works like De vocatione omnium gentium that influenced papal teachings on grace and predestination. Additionally, the Roman Martyrology notes other figures such as Saint Dominic Henares (d. 1838), a Spanish Dominican bishop martyred in Vietnam during persecution of Christians, and Saint Eurosia (d. 9th century), a Spanish virgin martyr. These observances highlight themes of monastic dedication, doctrinal fidelity, and martyrdom, with local veneration varying by region; for instance, William's cult is prominent in Italy.
