I don't know about you man but loyalty isn't something you learn.
If you don't have it as a kid, you never will. At 18 I've been in life threatening situations and didn't back down from. I don't think it's unfair to expect another 18 year old in some political sitiation to just keep his mouth shut and not betray all the people that have tried to help him out and burn a lot of bridges just to satisfy public opinions.
That's not expecting perfection. That's just expecting decency. Guarantee you there's kids his age that would agree.

Maybe this is a tool being used by the military. Maybe if once they finally remove him and start making arrests or whatever they'll point back to all this footage, saying HE WAS NEVER THE PRESIDENT and we knew it, hence why there were never any proper salutes and all these other presidential customs provided for him (AF1 for example).
That way it doesn't just look like some angry military coup when they're all removed as it will have been shown it was a long-term operation.
If he even remembers to, haha.
A lot of these traditions are sacred. Wouldn't want to give them to some usurper.
But for optics reasons and playing along for the show, I wouldn't be surprised if they just made up something to appease the consciences of the masses and make it seem legit but not an actual procedure meaning anything. Hence these things not lining up with typical salutes that ACTUALLY exist.
