Agreed, but it happens all the time. The IT department needs access to these systems remotely. They are usually on a LAN behind a firewall but they can still be compromised. Most of our nuclear plants have SCADA systems that are accessible on the internet and many of them still have the default passwords set on them.
Spend a few minutes searching https://www.shodan.io/ if you want to see how much crap is plugged into the internet. It's truly terrifying how vulnerable to this kind of attack we are across the world.
I worked in IT for a natural gas distribution company for 10 years. I absolutely believe that they didn't have protections in place for their SCADA systems. That part is probably true. But...
I also know we wouldn't have shut down the whole gas system for a ransomware attack. The computers that control their SCADA systems could be reimaged in a couple of hours and the pipeline has manual controls for just this kind of situation.
Mutually assured destruction doesn’t seem as scary if you built empty cities already to populate with the survivors.
They involved several other government officials in the Secretary's statement.
"Former Ukraine Government officials Konstantin Kulyk, Oleksandr Onyshchenko, Andriy Telizhenko, and current member of the Ukrainian parliament Oleksandr Dubinsky"
And holy crap, it sounds like they were all good guys. Every one of them listed was trying to provide evidence against Hunter and Xiden.

PRESS STATEMENT
MICHAEL R. POMPEO, SECRETARY OF STATE
JANUARY 11, 2021
People have been questioning whether the EO was ever used. I found the statement by Pompeo and I found the timing to be interesting compared to the NG deployment.
I do remember Xiden having some interesting ties to Ukraine. I'm not sure if Derkach and Biden can be directly connected. Since 2012 he has been a member of the Budget Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament and in March of 2016 Biden was withholding funding to Ukraine to get investigators fired. From 2002 to 2006, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Committee on Fuel and Energy.
I completely agree. Hollywood would be happy to help with any cgi or body doubles. It has been suggested that this is all a show. The news media would also be happy to help cover this up. Hell, cnn has been caught filming “news” in a soundstage before.
