The fastest answer would be to say that salvation is a mental / spiritual posture toward God as the most high and source of all things. Our state of mind about our identity under and thru Him.

it’s not a thing i claim to summarize. my only grievance is the idea of thinking an important statement is “not Christian” for its failure to summarize the “how” of everlasting life. John 3:16 is a “why.”

I do agree some Christians believe or seeing the sentence is all it takes. lip-service never works, we see that described clearly in James.

I read the document. I do not understand the idea that it is “not Christian” if it does not itself contain all the methodology needed to obtain salvation.

What single sentence could be Christian, by this thinking?

I see John 3:16 as John’s witness of what unlocked salvation for us. I don’t read it as the totality of what is needed to achieve it. Just a crucial element that will become true to any believer in Christ’s offer of salvation.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life!

May God keep you firm.

Heavenly Father, hallowed may we keep your name. May your kingdom come, may your will be done. On Earth as in Heaven. Give us day by day the day’s bread Forgive us our trespasses And help us forgive the same in others Lead us from temptation And deliver us from evil For yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory everlasting.

Amen.

Humans have for a long time tried to understand the entity you are referring to. In most of our best work, we have referred to Him as God and wrote about the findings in the Bible.
