Something good and more private that gmail, but please don’t suggest faggy domains that are just shit and look terrible for the sake of privacy either

Damn, I came here to say that you are the first comment I see.
I guess look it up ? It is encrypted email from what I can tell, and I as understand it your ISP can’t even see the message ?
But like everything else people have said don’t trust it. “It’s comped” ... show me something that isn’t. It requires nothing to sign up, worth at least a try for a burner acct
Thanks - everyone is saying this. However, is it practical? Like, will I sound like a complete faggot when I’m reading out my email and saying I’m ‘at proton mail dot com)?
Only if you care what other people think
I’m not very techy so this may be a silly question - but is it ‘recognized’? As in, will it be accepted for signing up to any website?
Yes, entirely
Just purchase a domain. It’s cheap and easy.
Gov officials use it
^ KEK ^
Pay a little to support company, and get your own domain name. https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/custom-domain-support/
Hmm, this might be the move
I didn't say it was. I was addressing his concern that he doesn't want his email address to be [email protected]
What?
It’s encrypted, at least advertised and parroted around the web as such. My buddy was into crypto, and he had to use an exchange not allowed in US. No IP from US could never touch his account, and we are talking a not insignificant amount of money. He ran it all through Protonmail ... that’s my anecdote
Yes it's very practical.
You can either use the free service, so yes your email would be [email protected]
OR
Go get yourself your own domain name and get a paid Protonmail plan, then route your mail to their servers. So you can use [email protected]
They also have a good tool you can use to IMPORT all your Gmail to Protonmail so you don't lose your stuff.
ooh thanks for this info. I've hesitated about proton mail because of the domain but this works. Import is even better.
They allow you to use @pm.me as well instead of protonmail.com
you tell people @pm.me (not protonmail.com).
I’m pleased with protonmail
OP, this is a pretty in depth page on choosing a secure email provider

This list is gold, thank you. I've got some reading to do!
To start make sure the router at your house does not use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for DNS services, they will be removing sites like this from DNS at some point. Gmail should have been ditched a long time ago, they claim intellectual property for anything you send or receive from their systems. (CIA funded it originally, its a giant arm of the intelligence agency. Also ditch chrome browser, there are other Chromium based variants.
Yeah I’m using Brave browser with DuckDuckGo and my search engines.
And how do I go about changing the DNS on my router? please tell me there’s a simple way.
Depends on your router.
don't most home ISP's have their own dns server?
what are they pointed at?
Fastmail. I've had it for years and love it.
Probably the best set-up is to get your OWN domain name with an email forwarding service, then set up a desktop email client like thunderbird to retrieve your emails.
If you want privacy and security.
Protonmail isn't based in the USA. My work blocks it.
Proton.
I just switched to protonmail. I like it so far
Also proton, have been on for 2 years. Set up forwarding from gmail to your proton so that you can update your contacts or other places/subscriptions that you still want to receive. I did this for 1 year then stopped the forwarding because after a year I figure that if I miss an email that went to gmail, it probably wasn’t that important.
roll your own if possible - takes a while, but may be worth it

https://iredmail.org/easy.html < hosted service
some various instructions for rolling your own .. not simple, but worth it if you are serious about email and privacy

protonmail
Didn't I just read somewhere today that protonmail was a cia obama connected fucking thing.....
I say this as a paid ProtonMail and vpn customer :(
Article was from 2018 or 2019.....i read it today and was like ffs... does anyone know what I'm going on about and can debunk plz lol
Project veritas uses it.

I dont know heads or tails what to make of it atp.
Anyone know anything about privacy-watchdog.io?
Wormself is right, Protonmail a must.
If you got to protonmail, also sign up for an account that does not have any identifying information like any part of your name, or any name that you used in the past for another account.
So what do you use ProtonMail for then? Like give me examples. Because I can’t really use it for work or for friends or anything like that if I have some cryptic name @protonmail lol, I’d look like I’m on the run from the police
Make two; one cryptic for your sneaky shit and one generic with your name and numbers or something if you're concerned about optics
My info was stolen from Yahoo mail in 2015 and those bastards got enough info from my saved emails to file a tax return in my name. Now I have to use a special PIN when I file my taxes not to mention having to cancel my credit cards and open new bank accounts. I won't let my personal information sit on any insecure system anymore if I can help it.
