92-9000 is currently the backup. The one POTUS has been flying on has been 82-8000. Interestingly 82-8000 was doing some interesting low altitude maneuvers (< 3000 ft) over Atlantic City, NJ yesterday, for like 2 hours. They are setting up for something.
They usually rotate them. On long foreign trips both are used.
I cowrote and edited a PBS documentary on the history of Presidential flight back in 1989 when these two 747s came on line. Was onboard 28000 for a day (on the ground). Also have some really nice hi res photos of the exterior and interior.
Absolutely, I’ve just been tracking the movements of the planes recently, and 82-8000 is currently the one POTUS has been using. Especially considering it has been in Andrews and hasn’t gone to Nebraska recently.
As for the rest, that is awesome! It’d be really cool if you could post those pics some where, I’d love to seen them!
What i have are 12" x 24" wide format prints. Not sure how I would get them scanned digital. I should try to contact the photographer on the project. Been ages since I've talked to him. The executive producer that has all original film died in 2007.
I seem to have lost that particular screen shot. But if any one sees it, find the ICAO then look that up. It will start with "AE" and have 4 more digits or letters (its in hexidecimal). That will tell you exactly what type of craft that was.
I'm almost certain it was one of the TEX2 trainers. They do trips like that in convoys often. No idea how this is getting misconstrued as AF1 and "escorts"
There have been many cases where they would alter the icao to obfuscate information. Here is at least one example.
But the fact remains flying that low and that slow is not common at all for a 747. Not for that long of a trip. Its landing speed is 150 kts. So it would be going really slow for no reason at all.
It was a VC-25A 100% with a large escort. Whether POTUS was on it or not... that's whats unclear.
There are only two of these aircraft. Tail #28000 and #29000
On the ADS-B exchange, both those tail #s are preceded by a 9...
28000 is preceded by an 8. The number standard for presidential planes is X2-X000

Take them to a UPS store that makes drafting blue print copies. The one near me can do up to 36" wide prints.
They took over Kinkos as I recall. Great idea!
Another post image shows tail # 929000. Is definately AF1 backup...
Tail number?

Welp, You got me there. However, I will provide you with another website that shows a different result. Link
^Also notice the altitude and speed. A boeing 747 would not usually cross country that low and that slow.
unless it was pretending to be something else?
