Good luck crossing the European continent (the Afghanistan trip) or here in the USA without a transponder. Milflights can do it in designated “play areas” but I think it’s just easier to disguise yourself on radar as a different aircraft using somebody else’s Mode S transponder hex.
You should be ok as long as you don’t file STS/STATE or your correct modes/tail number/aircraft type in the flight plan.
The TWR controllers might be confused though, if you file as a Tex-6 and landing as a B742 with pretty recognisable markings. Shouldn’t be a problem on an AFB though.
The guy said he removed the details in the post for security reasons. Seems reasonable if they're trying to hide plane movements.

True. When they leave themselves visible I assume they're doing so for US.
