Yes, but C5 are limited by where they can land and take off. Not all strips can accommodate them by length or strength of tarmac. A C-130, by contrast, can land and take off from anywhere: a field, a dirt road, a two-lane highway, and any airstrip in the world.
Thus, taking a C130 for tactical movement makes sense, no?
@mordengeist - last 2 weeks I've been seeing a lot of C-17 Globemasters compared to C-130's. What do you think they're hauling? They seem considerably larger than the C-130, so are they moving vehicles in those things along with troops?
Yep, a line of c 130's out of DC to minneapolis area earlier today, then early afternoon a few returning. That line took them right over my house in Michigan. I heard them go by at 23,000 feet. Suckers must be loud on the ground....
There appears to be two sets of flights by these planes. On late 17th/early 16th and then today. I’m guessing this theory is right. That is when the guard flew in and flew out
Yeah, I read 400 are returning to MN. According to af.mil c-130s can hold 128 troops. I imagine they have a lot of gear too
BUT C-5 are MUCH BIGGER TRANSPORT VEHICLES!!! xD

Cred: 24 yrs retired Air Force (specialty C130's)
Tactical approaches are fun in C130s!
Thank you for your service!

This is Nutnfancy isn't it
Could it be supplies or vehicles? I heard NG may be staying around D.C. until mid March.
A few states are recalling their NG because of the stunt putting the NG to sleep in a Capitol parking garage.
Three so far.

I guess that makes sense.

Lot of heavy lifting going in and out of DC today.
