So, I haven't watched a SB halftime show in quite a few years, so this might not be accurate to say "worst halftime show ever." But it was the worst one I ever saw. I only tuned in because George News mentioned there would be symbolism. They weren't wrong! It's amazing when you're looking for it, it's there in spades. And most of it was disturbing! Where to begin....
At the top (did you catch it?) When the Las Vegas-type sign was separating, I could have sworn a segment of it looked like a backwards "Q"
Next part jumped right into this robed, descending figure into some kind of 'choir.' Creepy as hell, all the 'choir' members had glowing red eyes, and danced in place like automatons.
Then there was this interior part which was like a bright lit funhouse with mirrors everywhere, then a bunch of male dancers with something (jockstraps?) on their heads zoomed around.
They all appeared later on the open field and marched around like some kind of dickhead army. I noticed they were all dressed in colors that brought to mind a certain violent extremist group we've seen all year, rioting, looting, and throwing fireworks at people and property. Any coincidence there there were fireworks going off pretty constantly throughout this 'performance?'
The songs weren't bad (the Weeknd), but the visuals were dark, militant, and unsettling. And for all the NFL's talk about defeating racism, why did it appear that every performer was of the same ethnic makeup? Well, maybe some of the jock strap squad were token 'other,' but it was impossible to tell!
I'm with you, there. I only turned on the TV to find out how awful the halftime show was going to be. I don't even care about watching the commercials anymore.
