On the hi-res, you can see the words POW/MÍA at the top. The Q tail is just the light hitting the fold in the flag. Now, I FIRMLY believe this picture was selected BECAUSE it undoubtedly appears to be a Q, but I think that’s just a happy coincidence.
Actually... I found a very high res version, zoomed all the way in... and shit. Youre correct. Very hard to see the letters, but youre correct and the tail is indeed the light on the fold.
As a photographer, for each “selected image” there are MANY of the same frame. This specific photo may have been selected BECAUSE they knew we would see the Q?
thats not a q flag. that a pow/mia flag
I just looked at a close up photo of the POW flag and zoomed in on this one, I'm not 100% certain that they are the same flag.
Is there a higher res copy of the WH photo above available?
edit: It probably is the POW flag, but I'd just like to confirm it with a better picture is all

Thanks, that's a lot clearer. I think it was a combination of the shadow and the angle that gave the impression of the 'Q tail' on the original :)
Optics can be so deceiving can't they?
Its not. Reverse image search for a HI RES version, zoom. Low res versions could be passed as POW MIA, but its indeed a simple White Q on Black flag.

I stand corrected.
