Some of the cameras show either a lot of fog or a lot of smoke. Earlier it really didn't look like fog because of how quick it was moving and it was not spread out like fog would be.

Hunter smoking too much crack
It's a temperature inversion creating a ground-hugging "pea-soup" fog mixed with car exhaust, jet exhaust, house chimney smoke, ground heat rising from sewers, fish stink from the river, etc. They used to be a lot, lot worse.
I actually watched as the smoke started and increased.

It may not be what we're hoping it is but it is very likely there is at least a fire there
I guess we'll find out one way or another but I will be sleeping soon. It's almost 6am here lol, damn DC live cams kept me up later than I had planned.
I don't expect anything major to happen yet but it sure would be nice
The Runway 1 Approach camera shows the smoke starting around 5-6 hours ago, much lighter and only localized in the left corner. At that time, its very clear that its smoke and not fog. And then as time goes by the smoke gets heavier
Are you saying the whitehouse is on fire?
No, I'm not saying that but it just doesn't look like fog to me
This all faded in too it was weird
Fog typically settles down near ground level from above. Smoke typically rises from ground level.
Fog happens when warm moist air passes by cold cool surfaces. Smoke comes from heat and heat rises up.
Example of fog
Fog normally is white looking like clouds usually are.
