Gang,
I am stumped, and hope someone here can address this. I'm honestly not casting any aspersions... I just want to figure out the process through which some questionable stuff, knowingly created, finds its way here.
How do two seemingly-long-time board members post with the exact same image, conveying the exact same (already addressed & answered) misconception, at the exact same time here?

Questions get asked, and answered, and re-asked, and re-answered here all the time. It's a little tiresome, and could definitely be largely remedied by an improved Search function that did more than just search New Post titles, but it is what it is. And, upon searching the Internet for "why is joe biden's state of the union speech listed as unofficial", I've discovered that this answer isn't readily available to the casual searcher. So I have no problem with this underlying question. So much weird stuff in DC, and it's great when we can collective answer some of it. ?
My real questions are:
- How would two different people end up with same image, and the same misconception, and be compelled to post it at the same time?
- What's the source of this stuff? Is there some mailing list, twitter feed, Telegramph thingy that folks belong to, which knowingly pumps this out and that well-meaning folks then breathlessly bring here?
If there is an external source that is creating material (yes, it's just a screenshot with "Unofficial" highlighted, but it logically had to have been created by someone other than the two posters) to spread distracting disinfo... that's really not a trustworthy source to be following.
This certainly isn't the first time I've seen this phenomenon, of disinfo-perpetuating images showing up hear near-simultaneously. It's just the first time I've bothered to ask. (And yes, I directly asked the two OPs where this image came from... I just haven't heard back from either yet. And neither cited the source of the marked-up screenshot image in their posts.)
Ok, well, I just got the answer:
And it is: conspiracies.win ?
I don't spend time over there... and this, frankly, is why.
From all I've seen, that group truly believes EVERYTHING IS A CONSPIRACY... and thus, discretion is perversely not a virtue, but rather just another malign manifestation of yet another conspiracy, using "gatekeeping" to prevent them from sharing "the real truth".
Ok, I don't really want to start an unnecessary row here, because I imagine this site has a lot of cross-travelers with conspiracies.win. But I really gotta say just this:
Folks, I'd humbly commend you to exercise greater skepticism over what you "discover" over there, and please, I ask you to employ discretion on what hot takes from over there you see fit to drag onto this board. I'd like to think we have not just a more defined focus, but significantly higher standards as well.
Still a great observation on your part. There is no doubt that shills may accidentally reveal info if they're sloppy in their approach.
As an example, the way the media uses the same terminology and themes amplifies the strength of the signal, but makes it obvious that it is a coordinated message, rather than a result of independent journalism.
No doubt.
You have a great perspective.
It just is a) not really my bag, and b) a mindset that I don't think is particularly beneficial to the Q-based effort, to say the least.
I mean... I’ve made only one post on this board and I deleted it seconds after. I was excited about something (George’s first pin drop) and checked to see if anyone else had posted it. No one had. I decided to post it and spent too much time working on my post. By the time I hit send someone else had posted it. I deleted my post after I saw the other one and commented on theirs instead. It’s definitely innocent to post something at the same time as others when it’s something that just happened or is fresh and exciting information based on my experience. Now why there are 10 threads about the same thing posted throughout the day is a whole different thing...
Hey, no disagreement with any of that.
I don't believe I made any suggestions of malign motives, nor of any intentional wrongdoings. And yes, everyone makes craps posts from time to time... mine are certainly on the record! ?
But I just often wondered why so many people, in waves, frequently have similar misconceptions at the same time.
And then my curiosity was piqued when I saw one post, which appeared to be a screenshot that the original poster has marked up himself... and then saw an identical one. Hmmm... ?
And nobody here could have a problem with that question being asked, and then answered.
Oh no offense taken. I guess I was just answering the part of your post that I have experience on. A lot of people are following disinformation sources closely on telegram or conspiracies.win or wherever. Kind of the same thing. A new thing pops up and they get excited to share. It will probably always be a problem as long as these types of accounts exist, I guess. But then again... I guess we don’t really know which accounts are the disinformation accounts (though some of them seem pretty obvious and yet are still taken seriously.). I’m pretty much rambling at this point.
I know I’m over it pretty quickly when somebody posts something and it’s debunked and then 20 minutes later someone posts the same thing. And then an hour later. And then the next day....
Yep.
I’ve been long curious why, and how, this is.
And it’d be really strange if I was the only one to have wondered this.
It appears I/we’ve finally got the answer.
This may or may not be relevant to this post but id like to say it any way..The great awakening is my go to site...why?,,because..at some of the other win sites I find posts criticizing Q posters..I dont find the same thing here..Its not that I want to only hear argument that supports my opinions, in fact I welcome challanges to my opinions...I guess what im trying to say is by all means feel free to challenge an opinion but dont attack the person whose opinion it is....
No worries here about specific relevance!
I'm extremely protective of New Posts. So glad the mods have cleaned it up for the most part.
But I'm, paradoxically, 100% in support of tangential comment threads. Because comment tangents are where the magic happens, as far as I'm concerned! So tangent away!
And I very much like your comment, and will add that posters here don't regularly, and shouldn't, get jumped on for posting differing opinions, as long as they are genuine and well reasoned. But pass should never be given to those who it can reasonable be determined are posting here for disingenuous reasons; if the suspicion was unfounded, the poster should be able to back up his ideas and opinions with no problem. Zero harm, great learning experience for all. But most often, it's truly not very tough to spot an obvious shill, and it's great fun to toy with them prior to deportation.
Dont worry so much why two people posted the same image at the same time. I just saw that image on some telegram account and thought - wow cool - but when I searched about it, realised it was a nothingburger.
I know you are thinking there is some strange conspiracy of disinformation going around to purposefully deceive people here. That may happen from time to time, but in this case I believe its a new image that caught people's attention and compelled them to post it without checking.
Ideally, what would be more useful is posting a simple one liner: "Do NOT fall for the SOTU red herring, even Trump's first SOTU was deemed onofficial."
That would be infinitely more useful for a casual reader!
No, that's explicitly not what I was saying.
This was just the latest iteration of this phenomenon I have seen repeated many, many times. I wasn't attributing conspiratorial motives... just following up on suspicious curiosity at where this stuff was coming from. I would imagine I'm not the only one who has wondered this, so rather than letting it go unexamined, I examined it. That's kind of what we do here, fren.
And when I learned it's evidently being trafficked over from conspiracies.win, I smacked myself in the forehead as I realized "Oh, man, that should have been obvious to me."
Of course your one-line answer is easier, and in an isolated case, absolutely the right way to go. But it would never have answered the larger question: where are all these people getting the same distracting, misleading notions?
I'm very glad to now know the answer.
And you're welcome.
And each time, it will be a different source. There are endless supply of them as far as disinfo is concerned !
Yes. And no. And it doesn't matter.
Yes, in that you're clearly right in that there are indeed endless sources of disinfo.
No, in that I believe a lot of this action, with multiple people excited at the same time to share the latest disinfo that tickled their inclinations, is indeed bubbled up through the discernment-allergic conspiracies.win.
And it doesn't matter, in that this will obviously keep happening until this place develops and inculcates a shared culture of rigor, discernment, and verification, which asks posters to do a bare minimum of research before propagating information. It's hardly a heavy ask, but is certainly anathema to the "It's muh right to post whatever I want here and then everyone just can sort it out on their own" crowd.
