Sorry been busy all day and didn't have time to correct earlier.... please read discussion through comments. I apologize for not fact checking my husband on this, but regardless it is very telling of today. This was not written by CS Lewis but in the style of, based on the book he wrote included below. ******edited
An 80 year old prophecy??? Maybe!
I was reminded of this famous book by C.S. Lewis, “The Screwtape Letters” written nearly 80 years ago. Amazing how this could have been written today:
′′One young devil asked the old man: "How did you manage to bring so many souls to hell?" The old devil answered: "I instilled fear in them!" Answers the youngster: "Great job! And what were they afraid of? Wars? Hunger?" Answers the man: "No, they were afraid of the disease!" For this youngster: "Does this mean they didn't get sick? Are they not dead? There was no rescue for them?" The old man answered: "but no . . . they got sick, died, and the rescue was there." The young devil, surprised, answered: "Then I don't understand???" The old man answered: "You know they believed the only thing they have to keep at any cost is their lives. They stopped hugging, greeting each other. They've moved away from each other. They gave up all social contacts and everything that was human! Later they ran out of money, lost their jobs, but that was their choice because they were afraid for their lives, that's why they quit their jobs without even having bread. They believed blindly everything they heard and read in the papers. They gave up their freedoms, they didn't leave their own homes literally anywhere. They stopped visiting family and friends. The world turned into such a concentration camp, without forcing them into captivity. They accepted everything!!! Just to live at least one more miserable day . . . And so living, they died every day!!! And that's how it was very easy for me to take their miserable souls to hell..... ′′

Regardless, I just checked. You indeed appear to be correct.
PLEASE STOP SHARING FALSEHOODS PEOPLE. IT’S INTENTIONALLY DISCREDITING.
Thank you!
Sorry, my bad just edited above, long day.
Correct
Are you saying that you’re familiar with this quote, and that it’s simply actually another author, misattributed?
Or are you indicating that this “prescient” excerpt seems to be a fabricated?
If it’s the second, it would appear to me that the only logical explanation for why someone would have gone to the effort of creating this is to malevolently attempt to discredit the honest efforts of people who believe that that the fear- and panic-induced lockdowns have been truly inspired by evil.
Any more information on this would be welcome, but if this is indeed a fabricated quote, PLEASE NOBODY ELSE SHARE IT, as it would have been cynically crafted for the sole reason of making us look like fools and liars.
If presented as a well written piece inspired by the screw tape letters, that would be cool. It feels very much from the book. Impersonating the greats is frowned upon.
Reminds me of a Paul Harvey monologue.
To a tee what 98% of the world is doing right now.
Yes.
But it’s a fake quote.
“Fake but accurate” was good enough for Dan Rather, but only because Dan Rather was a lie-peddling whore.
I fell for it.
Quite honestly, so did I.
And I doubt either of us are dummies.
All we can do is learn lessons from this.
We have to be sharper here, and everywhere.
Desperation can easily lead us down false paths seductively label as “Truth.”
If it sounds too good to be true... for goodness’s sake, check it out first before blasting it out.
I woulda remembered if this was in The Screwtape Letters. Read it anyway, it's accurate and prophetic but it's not quite that specific. 70% of the quotes on the internet are fake, said Lincoln. You are the news now, said Q.
Hahaha, thank you, my fault for not researching before hand but still very telling for today.
Ugh face plant, long day, sorry just corrected, should have just deleted when I saw but I really liked the story.
Whoever wrote this, it wasn't C.S. Lewis. Would it be so hard to say: In the style of C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters, and then sign their own stinking name to it?
Fake quote.
PLEASE STOP SHARING FALSEHOODS PEOPLE. IT’S INTENTIONALLY DISCREDITING.
You are being made to look like fools and liars in your/our honesty-driven quest to seek and share the truth.
And OP, please research and remove. We absolutely cannot perpetuate hoaxes here, no matter how good they appear.
Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
It’s fake.
Please don’t share this yourself.
It’s designed and spread for the sole purpose of making honest people appear to be liars.
Alright, I won't share because I didn't know about it being a fake. It was still good, though.
It only seems good because people are being fooled by its provenance. Notice that you titled this post “80 year old prophecy? C.S. Lewis”, and not something like “Good description of coronavirus madness”.
https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2020/06/fact-check-cs-lewis-did-not-write-passage-that-appears-to-have-parallels-to-coronavirus-crisis.html
In reality, it is ham-fisted ‘fanfic’ written by a willful liar for malevolent purposes. Because that’s, quite ironically, exactly how the devil operates. It’s a great example of how he uses good and well-intentioned people, every day, to sabotage the truth.
I like the content
C.S. Lewis was a genius who also said, "Some people go straight for happiness like experienced travelers go for the best seats on a train." That's us Patriots, clear-headed and aware and immune to fear because our focus is on our unity, the Digital Battle we're raging against the Deep State, and how "God wins". Our faith is saving us from hell right now. But sadly, most people are trapped in the fear that comes from faithlessness.
Where’d you get this from, OP?
My hubby sent it to me, he found it. There are claims "fact checking" this to be false, while other sites, Christian sites for example, quote this. I have not read the book so I cannot verify for sure. Regardless, someone wrote it, and it is very much representative of today.
That’s because someone wrote it today. (or, more specifically, mid-2020)
People are foolishly sharing this based solely on the false basis that it is given weight by being 80 years ahead of its time, and authored by the great C.S. Lewis. Neither of these appear to be true. Instead, it is just a LARPing description of a contemporaneous situation, and one which could only have been inserted into the social media world under false pretenses for the most cynical of reasons - to attempt to discredit people of good faith who truly want to convey the truth about the lies of “COVID.”
The creation of this was intentional poisoning of the well of truth, which you naively perpetuated, even with your best of intentions. But now that you know, you cannot continue to perpetuate this in good honesty. It is simply a lie, and as the most convincing lies always are, it’s cleverly camouflaged with the truth.
Thank you, lesson learned, can't even trust my husband. Kek
Ya I feel like a jackass, but whatever. I think the discussion was a learning opportunity for many.
Absolutely!
Not the feeling bad part, of course?, but the learning part, I mean.
Hope you had a great day since then!
Cheers!
