How much of this just happens because of cowardice and submission? Like an advertising agency hires the hot new college graduate. But the hot new college graduate is a diversity hire who only won their awards because they were a trans person of color. So now the trans person of color pitches this idea to the ad agency. And all the co-workers don’t want to speak up and say “fucking ew weirdo”, so they all keep their mouths shut. Now the CEO thinks his whole team loves it, and he’s not gonna be the one to say “fucking ew weirdos”. So he takes it and presents it to the Cadbury CEO. Now the Cadbury CEO thinks this whole advertising agency team thinks this is a great idea and if he says “fucking ew weirdos” then they go to the press and get him fired for homophobia. So he takes the commercial to the Cadbury Board of Directors thinking they will put the kibosh on it because they have anonymity and power in consensus. But each individual board member still feels vulnerable and separate from the group, and none of them want to be the first to raise their hands in protest. So now each of them thinks the ad agency is on board, the CEO is on board, and the rest of the board is on board, so they figure fuck it, I will keep my ew to myself. And now this obscenity goes out on the national airwaves even though nobody but the original gay Muslim trans person of color actually liked it.
An attempt to push a super "female superiority" thing happened in my company, from an agency we were working with. I pushed back, others agreed, and we outright rejected the idea. All it takes is 1.
