Do they often opt for the mic pack stuffed inside of a boot tactic for sit down interviews? The wife brought up the same counter, but why down in a boot where crew can't get to it without her taking off shoes. I don't buy it.
No idea. Didn't want to infer I had professional TV/wireless experience, but I have a general understanding through recording / live music / wireless setups / the internet.
Let's say it is a criminal ankle monitor. Can you spot the wireless transmitter? Where do you think it would be?
Edit: took another look after someone pointed out a 2nd bulge and it does look like there is a horizontal bulge on her left leg as well as the one pointed out by the big arrow
I did not see or want to see the interview. As far as Mics go. There could have been a wired overhead boom mic with a quality condenser mic. This would "pick up all three in the interview.
Could be an option, but if I were a sound guy at that level with an unlimited budget and setup I'd use both. You can't control the wind, etc., and you sure as hell don't want to be responsible for saying "uhh we can't use this it sounds like shit."
Which is why they make foam covers to go over the mics. It eliminates wind noise. I have used these covers many times in outdoor concerts and events. After looking at the bulge in her boot I wondered if she was "Packing" a small pistol. You never know..
Actually it does kind of look like there are 2 bulges. Didn't notice that the first time probably because there was only one arrow on the 2nd pic. On the first it looks like one bulge is more horizontal and one is more vertical.
I guess still with an unlimited budget / resources you might want to use 2 at that level, but you could also just use a boom mic as well as a backup. I suppose after seeing the 2nd I'm feeling more hmm about this.
Edit: Idk. On 3rd look the horizontal crease looks like it could be part of the boot.
If the microphone excuse is the new story then they should have made that the original deboonk story
nobody who looks at that thinks that is a boot crease, a boot crease that only exists in that spot and doesnt run up the leg, an unnecessary amount of material around the top of the foot for someone who no doubt buys tailor made shoes

This is supposed to explain the bulge ?
Yeah, quite the 'crease'! ?
a crease that only exists in that part of the boot, wow.
another one i read just said that we came up with it "out of nowhere" that there was nothing strange with her boot at all

Edit 2: On my next look I think that horizontal bulge might be part of the boot. Idk.
Oprah has a lot of bulges. The second one will be hard to find.
Hah!!
This boots are really working. Stretched to the max.

doesn't explain Ellen's in her twitter videos.
Mic packs are usually on the back or hip. Not down in a boot. Even an overhead boom is more norm ( like Oregun said ) than this story lol.
Could be a small pistol with holster

Sod off, troll.
