I am wondering why that was and if anyone knew of this before his arrest. Maybe this is what triggered the investigation into him in the first place?

This isn't even the first time that part has happened either. I guess certain gov employees can get away with it on the basis of "confidentiality" but how the hell can't an IT dept. monitor for this kind of trace activity? Maybe they do and just cover, who knows.
IT departments shouldn't become the Gestapo just because there's one sicko out there. Not to mention 'equipment' can mean laptops or cell phones that would be very hard to monitor beyond physically confiscating them and going through them. Treating everyone like a pervert shouldn't become the norm.

Ideally he would flip, but flipping requires incentive. Id he has nothing to gain, why would he flip? The disparate lengths of time between minimum and maximum sentencing is the leverage used for flipping on higher ups.
Agreed, I understand needing incentive and I'm hoping they have enough leverage just via physical evidence to really twist the dagger without giving this scum much actual leeway. We shall see!

I appreciate the response but am slightly confused, but perhaps my comment was too ambiguous; I admit I have bouts of outrage (more akin to a seething hatred for this flavor of status quo) but that wasn't my intention here.
My comment was more intended to provide some info for those who notoriously don't click into articles or read the whole thing, but I should have said as much. I also am not new to this; I stepped into this rabbit hole back when pizzagate broke and have been redpilling my local circles since and I appreciate anyone else trying to do the same, even on here (lots of new folks and curious lurkers).
