They aren’t taking the piss, but they ARE doing that weird Millennial irony thing where they over-exaggerate a phoney feeling of happiness (or despair) for social approval, while at the same time making it clear the emotion is a put on and the person is actually a cynical unfeeling husk of a human being, which that too is also a fake put on, since they aren’t even that despairing either.
