Having just seen a thing about a facial recognition test at Disney, the sign said clearly it is optional.
Got me thinking about how recently now that in my area (very democrat area) anyone who wants the COVID shot can get it, it’s come up with some work and karate friends and when they ask if/when I’m getting one, I’ve just been saying “no, I’m not planning to” with the conviction that my mind is made up and I don’t even need to explain it to you. And they have all been “oh ok, cool, that’s your choice” but they don’t just end it there. They repeat it several times. If it were another question they would not do so normally.
Not sure if they are just emphasizing it to make sure you know they’re serious, or if my assured stance on it is making them second guess they’re own decision. Or the whole subject is so touchy? Or are they mad they see one of the monkeys isn’t going along with the pack? I’m a visibly healthy late 30s guy so shouldn’t be a health concern.
What are your the reactions you all are getting to “non educated” colleagues and friends when you tell them you don’t plan on getting an experimental drug?
I reply that I’m taking the placebo. They say what? I say that every experiment/trial study needs a placebo. I’m the placebo by not taking the vaccine. Have a nice day...you should see their faces when it sinks in!???
I wish you the best of luck. Some people, I swear, are just to far gone. It's almost as if they can't think logically. I had covid, didn't even know I had it, but I tested positive for the antibodies. So I just tell my friends and family that I already had covid, had zero symptoms and I'm completely fine. I will not be taking a vaccine for something in which I know my body's immune system can fight it. They never say much after they hear that.
I envy you. I said the same thing almost and that I'm not one of those people who apparently still has lingering COVID symptoms months later and I got, But I'm still worried. OK then.
Someone posted an article earlier by a man who gave his reasoning for not getting the shot. One I liked the best was how creepy it is the mantra of “get the vax” and the “look at me look at me, I got the vax you should too”. Maybe I’m not with it anymore but didn’t they use to tell us don’t be peer pressured into experimenting with drugs? Can’t I just say I was taught not to follow my friends off the cliff. “Just say NO”
Boom! Hadn’t even thought of that line of reasoning! Throw a huge wrench in their hive mind machinery. Love it!
If people ask, I say I’m not planning to unless they take away my rights —just trying to get the point across that it is my right & any government forcing me to vaccinate is infringing on my rights doubly. My Mom about had a heart attack when I told her. I felt bad for her because she definitely didn’t see that coming.
Well me and a bunch of other apes are still buying GME and eating crayons.
I eat paste and I'm running with scissors.
It makes them second guess it. Everyone Who got it who knows I’m not almost avoided telling me they did. And when it comes out they joke about it like I haven’t grown a third arm, one was like trying to convince me why she was convinced wasn’t all that believable. I’m the one that says it’s your choice to get it’s everyone’s choice but they should really know what they are choosing! “Insert awkward silence” hahaha everyone knows I’m a product of a bad vaccine so if they know me they know for a fact vaccines can go wrong.
In my experience, people who repeat the same thing again and again have a hard time believing it. In reality, they are repeating it to convince themselves of it.
The way I read it is, they believe you are making the wrong choice. But they also want to believe that they are open minded enough to accept your choice as legit but finding it hard to accept.
I don't smell any overt-maliciousness here, just misguided beliefs, and perhaps a slight feeling of "poor guy, he is gonna suffer for his ignorance"-kind of smugness
I can see that. “Sure bud, have another beer... guarantee you’ll regret it tomorrow but I’d be a hypocrite to stop you!” (And in this scenario beer must actually be good for you lol)
