I'd like to see our true history taught right from the beginning and continue throughout the school years. Make it lively, fascinating.... by people who love teaching it.
That's what I said elsewhere; get every level of government the hell out. I would like to see homeschooling everywhere. My kids are long out of school.
I was a history major, mainly studied 20th century Europe but when I did cover some topics of American History, particularly the revolutionary war, the professor I had was phenomenal. Truly captivating. His class was challenging but I passed it with ease because he was so endearing.
Have you come across David Barton's history presentations? He's got a huge collection of original writings that he presents from and it's just fascinating. Makes a huge difference when the teacher loves the subject. I think we've had more than enough "teachers" who go along to get along and/or are focused on globalism/marxism/Agenda 21/2030.
Shouldn't that be grade 3-6 type stuff? Then again in 10-12 for an more in depth look at it. Are the founding documents not currently a part of public education in the US? (I'm Canadian).
It may still be in some schools, but "civics", which was a class taught in probably every high school in the U.S. up until possibly the late '70s, covered the basics of how our government operates. U.S. History was another class that was standard, and I don't know if it is still taught everywhere, but if it is, it is probably the corrupted leftist version of U.S. History.
I actually have mixed feelings on this. My initial thought is that this is great! Everyone should know the founding docs!
But how do we make sure the people teaching it are conveying them properly, and not with the “woke” lens? And having the government mandate anything...even something good...into our education can be an unnerving idea. Free market indicates that schools should offer what the students demand. But then, they do receive state funding, so I can be persuaded. I just don’t think it is simple.
Just like proper vetting for public service candidates (that is not being done)............and always investigate what is being taught and how it's being taught. Eternal vigilance is the only path to a viable country.
The state, feds, and local governments need to be removed from our education. When you have the parents who are footing the bills overseeing those who are teaching their kids, there is a much better outcome, accountability is much more accessible.
But this quote? ? It makes me think his education failed him.
"What [the bill is] saying is that we want to indoctrinate college students on their dime to what we think is important," State Rep. Michael Rivers (D) said in objection to the bill. "If you in college and you ain't learning this stuff yet, it's kind of late. ... This [bill] is just blowing smoke."
He's pretty right though. This is a performance bill - you learn about the Federalist Papers / Constitution / Declaration in like third or fourth grade and all through grammar school / junior high / high school. By the time you're in college, you get to pick what you want to learn, and if you take US History, you'll learn even more about them.
I'd be less annoyed if these legislatures were actually fixing the damn roads. Where I live, I've written to the state legislature every month for the past ten years about the dilapidated stuff we have to drive on, and we're at the point where the roads are so bad there's a spot where people have to stop in the middle of the road and let the other person pass because there's a pothole so big, the entire lane is missing. It's just a one-way street because of disrepair.
Our children must be taught our history or we will cease to exist! They must learn the sacrifices that those before us made. Liberals are trying to erase our history and teach our children to be followers not leaders. It really is a battle of good vs. evil!
The fact that such a law is necessary indicates that schools are not.

Get a book. Teach it yourself. To your kids.
Without government endorsement.
Tell them the truth about what government is and where it comes from.

The problem is that they have to pass a law to compel universities in America to teach American founding documents.
Well it will take them years to find academicians who are bright enough to actually teach something worthwhile that isn't based on feelings.

“Free market indicates that schools should offer what the students demand”
They don’t know what they are supposed to know that’s why they’re going to college.
It’s SC I don’t know how “woke” you can make our founding documents—they speak for themselves.
Simple. Teach your kids yourself.

Definitely stop waiting for the government
Hire people who attended Hillsdale College. Hillsdale BTW, does not accept federal funding! https://www.hillsdale.edu/
Should also teach the history of Communism.

They can spin these classes any way they want.
How about a bill you get rid of race bait theory 101 forever.
They will just teach how “racist” the documents are.
This is like asking atheist teachers to lead students in prayer.
Every child should k kw te constitution forward and backwards by 6th grade.
